WHERE DRAW A DINOSAUR DAY BEGAN! This holiday originated 5 years ago, at Providence College, from the simple mind of your host, Mr. Todd H. Page.
I first got the idea while in my anthropology class with a horribly boring professor, and my book had dinosaurs. I’ve always loved dinosaurs, so I drew one in my notebook, and I was like “I wonder how many people I could get to draw a dinosaur” so I pestered the kids near me and got them to draw a dinosaur, then went back to my room and made this LJ post: http://toddpage.livejournal.com/139342.html
It was fun and simple, and almost everyone seemed to have fun doing it. I recognized that it was a fun way to get everyone to do something creative and silly.
Got about 12 or so that first year, as you can see. I was determined not to forget so I added it to my calendar as a recurring event and the next year I prepped a bit in advance and asked everyone I knew to draw dinosaurs. I would guess I got about 70.
The next year I asked again, with more preparation, this time getting somewhere around 300. Last year, I prepped more, and made a special website, getting about 350.
This year I have made a website that is more permanent using someone else’s [tumblrs] framework, and I began mobilizing more. I’ve gotten 795 as of right now, with more filtering in slowly. It has truly been incredible seeing this grow.
